The housing area where I live is divided in half by a long hill. Today, I wanted to see if I could get to the houses on the other side of the hill by going over the hill, instead of around it.
Of course, there had to be stairs. (I hate stairs.)
After a long climb, I reached a path along the top of the hill. Here was the view of the houses on the other side.
I walked along the ridge, and came upon an ancient grave site. Most of the hills in our area have graves on them, and some are more than 1,500 years old.
I doubt anyone really knows who was buried here.
The path seemed like it went on forever, but I could not find a way down to the other side of the hill.
There were some great views of Lake Biwa, though.
This was at the top of the hill.
Sometimes there were signs posted, warning people not to set the hill on fire.
Then of course at the end of the trail there was the obligatory shrine.
And there were some purple hydrangeas on the way down the hill.
This was the view looking back up the path to the shrine.
I ended up several miles from home, and I never did find a path to the houses on the other side of the hill, but it was a great walk.
