Camels

Between 2002 and 2004, my family and I lived in Xinjiang–China’s westernmost province. I took this photo at Karakul Lake in 2003, very near the borders of Afghanistan and Pakistan. Karakul Lake is noted for being mentioned by Marco Polo, and for having an elevation of 3645 meters. It is arguably one of the remotest areas in the world in terms of human habitation. It was also wonderful.
