This morning there was heavy snow in Shiga, Japan. Around noon, I was walking on the shore of Lake Biwa. The snow had turned to sleet and rain. For just one moment the sky opened and this rainbow appeared, then it grew cloudy again and began to snow.
This is a red kite, which is a variety of small hawk common around Lake Biwa, Japan. We saw him on our walk earlier this week.
Another photo from near my house.
We took the kids on a walk to Lake Biwa today, and saw many grey herons roosting in the treetops. Fortunately, I had a long-range lens for my camera.
