The Fisherman’s Festival Restaurant

漁祭

I saw this restaurant in Fushimi, Kyoto. The name in Japanese is “Rou Matsuri” (漁祭)–which can be translated as “Fisherman’s Festival”. The wooden signs explain the kinds of food the restaurant serves (mostly fish, of course), while the ball of cedar twigs (sugitama) to the left of the door of is the symbol for a sake distillery. Even though this restaurant does not appear to make sake, Fushimi is a famous sake center, and so many houses or establishments there display sugitama to show that they have some sort of past connection to the craft.
